Thanksgiving 2023.

It’s been an awesome 6 months since the start of P37. As I reflect on the past year, I am thankful that my life has improved significantly. I’m in a better position, mentally, physically, spiritually and financially. I have more time on my hands to spend time with my family, I exercise very regularly now (2-3 times a week), and I go to bed peacefully every night, knowing that the very next day is going to be awesome and pretty much stress-free.

I’m so thankful for my students, who have trusted their drum education with me, and I’ll continue to put in my best efforts to make drum lessons meaningful for each of them. It’s really a joy to see each student enjoy their lessons and improve in their craft.

I’m a teacher at heart, and I’m thankful to have discovered what my calling is. Having spent the last few years trying to mold myself into something I’m not, was probably a painful, yet necessary experience, and I am, in a way, glad that I went through it anyway. Life’s a learning journey, right?

It’s really surreal to think that work means practicing drum rudiments, writing curriculum for drum lessons, learning and transcribing drum notation in songs etc. I never understood what “enjoying work” meant, until I came out on my own. I could not have done this without my dear wife, Kristen, who constantly supports me through this journey of being a private drum teacher/ educator (she built this website for me, referred students to me, designed the P37 logo, set up my social media platforms, taught me video editing etc). P37 could not have been made possible without this amazing lady, and I thank God everyday for her. Of course, not forgetting my wonderful mother, who graciously provided a spare room for me to conduct my drum lessons, family and friends, who have all encouraged and assured me that I was on the right path.

People often ask me, “Jo, what does P37 stand for?” Well, it represents 2 of my favourite verses, Proverbs 3:5-6 and Philippians 4:4-7. I’m an anxious person by nature, and I constantly cling on to these 2 verses for comfort and assurance. I pray that I can be a good representation of what God wants me to be, and that I can, in my own little way, demonstrate His Love, Grace and Peace, in all that I do.

To God be the glory.
